Professional Experience and Expertise
Tom has mediated hundreds of cases, and served as sole arbitrator or panel member (including panel chair) in more than 125 arbitrated cases.
He is a Fellow of the College of Commercial Arbitrators; a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators; and a member of the National Academy of Distinguished Neutrals.
From 2009-2013, Tom was a global co-chair for the commercial litigation practice of Sidley Austin LLP, and head of that firm's Los Angeles litigation group. Before his retirement from Sidley Austin, he was recognized as a "Litigation Star" by Benchmark Litigation in 2010 and 2014 and by Who's Who Legal in 2012-2014.
For nearly four decades, Tom represented clients in an unusually diverse mix of cases, ranging from patent infringement to professional ethics, product liability to false advertising, and unfair competition to employment. His experience includes the following areas, among others:
